Spatial, temporal and trophic structure of Santa Cruz river aquatic communities |
The aim of my research is to study the spatial, temporal and trophic structure of the freshwater communities of the Santa Cruz river (Santa Cruz, Argentina) as related to the introduction of exotic species, with special emphasis on the rainbow trout, and the construction of hydroelectric dams.
I am specially interested on the characterization of the river comunity assemblages (e.g., primary producers, macrozoobenthos and fishes) as a consequence of the spatial and temporal environmental complexity. This characterization involves establishing the trophic relationships among the species and the identification of the functional groups.
Lastly, I will try to generate possible scenarios of environmental changes (habitat loss and hydrologic regime modifications) and its consequences on the community structure as a result of anthropogenic activities.
